Why Indonesia?

We always knew that if we were going to move, we wanted to go somewhere far! Obviously, there are many differences between European countries, but we felt the change wouldn't be big enough. We wanted something completely different, out of our comfort zone.
We've spent a couple of holidays in Asia and absolutely loved it. The people, landscapes, food, the way of life, so it just made sense that we would head in that direction. Another factor was where Pablo could transfer within his company, several options came up but nothing really 'tickled our fancy', then when Indonesia was thrown into the mix it stood out as The One.
Firstly, Indonesia is pretty bloody big, it's made up of 18,307 islands, yes 18,307! The Capital is Jakarta and is on the main Island, Java. One of Indonesia's main advantages and a big attraction for us is that it is well connected to the rest of South East Asia, Singapore is less than a 2-hour flight, Ho Chi Minh 3 hours and Bali just 1.5 hours. So weekends and holidays can be spent exploring that part of the world. Another obvious factor was the standard of living that we would have, how different are the laws? Do we still have all our human rights? These things differ greatly all over Asia. However, for the most part Indonesia will provide a safe, free life!
Have you ever thought about moving to Asia?
What do you think would scare you the most?
